Since 1992 the Mendon Foundation has worked hard to enhance the natural resources in the Town of Mendon. Our Goal is to continue to preserve as much precious open space as possible in order to enhance property values and contribute to the outstanding quality of life we enjoy in our town.

The Mendon Foundation is the first and only member-directed not-for-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting the rich cultural heritage of the communities in and adjacent to Southeastern Monroe County. Our mission is to enrich the lives of our members and their community by working with local municipal governments, major contributors and local residents to preserve, protect and enhance the scenic, natural, recreational, structural and historical resources of critical cultural significance. The Foundation values are nonsectarian, nonpartisan and perpetual. A Board of 12 Directors governs the Foundation. Bi-Monthly meetings are held for the Directors. An annual meeting for all members is held in May.

Throughout the past ten years the Mendon Foundation has contributed significantly in the community with its partnership with municipal and county government. Their working partnership with Monroe County has resulted in the development of the Lehigh Valley Trail and Mendon Station Park, Museum and Education Center. Through land acquisition by endowment, the Sibleyville Nature Reserve is currently being developed for passive recreational use and preservation of open space. Environmental preservation has occurred with involvement in federally funded programs such as the Warm Weather Grass program, Wetland Restoration project, and the WHIP Program.

Future plans include: Continuation of land acquisition through donation or conservation easements; development of open space preservation program; completion of Mendon Station Park, Museum, and Education Center; linkage of the Lehigh Valley Trail to the Genesee Greenway Trail system and expansion of federal programs.
